The Virginia Opry "Keith Bryant Showcase"

The Virginia Opry "Keith Bryant Showcase"

Sunday, May 26th, 2019 – 3:00 pm - Sunday, May 26th, 2019 – 5:00 pm

Historic Masonic Theatre and Masonic Amphitheatre
510 Main Street
Clifton Forge, VA  24422 Google Map

The Virginia Opry, Virginia’s longest running country music show, will continue its 28th performance season by presenting the “Keith Bryant Showcase” on stage at the Historic Masonic Theatre on Sunday, May 26, at 3:00 p.m.
Crossing County Lines, a four-piece string-instrument band that cut its first CD in Nashville in October of 2018, will open for Keith Bryant whose career led him from the Shenandoah Valley to Nashville where he became a recording artist with two hits charting on “Billboard’s Hot Top 50” and a touring contract with a major corporate sponsor.
Jana Allen will emcee and serve as vocalist as well. She got her start as a vocalist on stage at the Historic Stonewall Theatre (later renamed the Historic Masonic Theatre) in 1992 as a sixth grader performing in a “Musical Tribute to the Railroad, a musical her father, M. Ray Allen, directed.
M. Ray Allen, who earned his MFA degree in theater arts from UCLA in 1980, founded Appalfolks of America Association (AAA) in 1985 to promote the literary and performing arts. He appointed H. Ray Tucker, a guitarist and vocalist, of Selma to form The Virginia Opry’s first troupe of musicians and vocalists, and the troupe made its debut at the Historic Stonewall Theatre in October of 1992. The theatre had been donated to AAA in 1991.
Bryant will be accompanied by Steve Hoke, a musical instrument inventor who plays the most unique instrument of its kind, a fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo, all rolled into one. The two are dynamic on stage, and Bryant’s vocals have earned him fame as a Nashville recording artist who also writes some of his own songs.
“Riding with the Legend,” the NASCAR favorite song about Dale Earnhardt giving a hitchhiker a ride, vaulted Bryant onto the national stage as the hit charted on “Billboard’s Hot Top 50.”
M. Ray Allen noted, “This is the first showcase Virginia Opry show, and I hope that it will become a tradition to feature one Virginia performer each year to celebrate the body of work that the performer has achieved.”
Jana Allen graduated from Alleghany High School in 1999, earned her degree in communications at Liberty University, completed a two-year Misner acting program at the William Esper Studio in Manhattan, and pursued a career in theatre. She has appeared in more than a dozen movies and TV programs, and she is nearly finished with filming “Remember Yesterday, A Wilmington Love Story” in which she has been cast as the lead female role.

Crossing County Lines features Will Atkins, rhythm guitar; Isaac Blake, banjo; Tanner Lacks,
bass; and Eli Phillips, fiddle and mandolin. All are vocalists with Lacks performing as the lead.
M. Ray Allen observed, “Home Sweet Home, Virginia,” the song I penned for the late Bob Campbell to set to music wound finishing as a Top 20 finalist song to replace “Carry Me Back to Old Virginia,” the state song that Governor Douglass Wilder retired, and Jana will perform the song as our Virginia Opry’s theme song.”
Tickets for The Virginia Opry’s “Keith Bryant Showcase” show are $10-$15 for balcony seating, $18-$20 for orchestra seating, and $25 for box seats.
Tickets may be purchased online by visiting www.historicmasonictheatre.com, by calling the box office at (540) 862-5655, or at the box office at 510 Main Street in Clifton Forge.
M. Ray Allen concluded, “The “Keith Bryant Showcase” show will be the first time that The Virginia Opry has performed a Sunday matinee show, and tickets will be available at the door the day of the show unless there is a sellout in advance.”

USAF Heritage Brass Ensemble Community Concert
Monday, June 10, 2019, at 7pm
The John E. Hillert Auditorium
Free Admission, no ticket required.

As we prepare for Flag Day on June 14th, we proudly host the renowned USAF Heritage Brass Ensemble on our stage. This free concert is open to everyone. We hope you'll join us.

The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band has a rich history of inspiring hearts and minds, building and sustaining American patriotism, and enhancing esprit de corps in the United States Air Force. It was one of the original Army Air Corps bands, created by order of the Secretary of War on October 1, 1941 and assigned to Barksdale Field, Louisiana. In June 1946, after a short stay at Brooks Field, Texas, the band arrived at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, its current home.

For over seventy-five years, the band has represented the Air Force with musical and military distinction. Members bring music to the mid-Atlantic in live concerts and to the nation in televised events such as "The Today Show" and the DESERT STORM National Victory Parade, as well as presidential inaugural events. The Heritage of America Band has performed ceremonies for U.S presidents and foreign heads of state, including the Queen of England and the President of France. Using today's technology, the band reaches a world wide audience through its website, social media and audio recordings. Additionally, the band travels more than 150,000 miles to perform hundreds of concerts for listeners across a fifteen-state region from Maine to South Carolina.

In recent years, the mission of Air Force Bands has become an expeditionary one. The Blue Aces were among the first groups to tour Southwest Asia and the Horn of Africa to support coalition and Joint forces serving in the Global War on Terrorism.

The USAF Heritage of America Band's exceptional musicianship has earned international critical acclaim and numerous honors: eight Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, five Air Force Organizational Excellence Awards, four Colonel George S. Howard Citations of Musical Excellence for Military Concert Band, North Carolina's Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and countless state and municipal proclamations. The USAF Heritage of America Band remains at the forefront of preserving and enriching America's musical heritage in the 21st century.
