The Shenandoah Ballet presents: The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid, based on the original Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, is set to the music of multiple composers compiled to create the setting for this undersea adventure.

First choreographed by Missy Belcher Floyd in 2017, this ballet tells the story of The Little Mermaid and her desire to give up her life in the sea in order to gain a human soul.

In order achieve this goal, she must gain the true love of another human.

After rescuing a drowning prince, she is certain that he will find her to be his one true love. She is heartbroken to find that his heart belongs to another.

Given the choice to kill the prince in order to return to her Mermaid life, she chooses, instead, to accept her fate. Choosing good over evil, she decides to not kill him and returns to the water as sea foam.
