STARS (Special Theatrical Artists Revue & Showcase) will open its 24th performance season by presenting “March Into Spring,” a variety show, on stage at The Historic Masonic Theatre on Saturday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m.
STARS, a troupe of 30 performers who face intellectual challenges and/or physical disabilities, will present the type of variety show that the troupe has become known for performing in The Alleghany Highlands. Directed by Paula Crance and Sonya K. Romonello, STARS began as an outreach of Appalfolks of America Association with ten members. With Chris Fisher continuing as emcee, STARS has grown and drawn praise from theatre patrons throughout the Alleghany Highlands and beyond.
M. Ray Allen, president and founder of Appalfolks, remarked, “STARS continues to be a successful outreach for performers who face physical disabilities and intellectual challenges, and the documentary film titled “STARS” that Appalfolks produced in 2006 won a Bronze Telly.”
STARS was the third outreach program that Appalfolks launched to serve the Alleghany Highlands, the first being the Stonewall Players and the second The Virginia Opry that has been commended by the Virginia General Assembly for completing 25 consecutive years of presenting country music shows in the Alleghany Highlands.
Tickets for STARS range from $8 to $20, depending upon seating arrangements. All tickets purchased prior to the day of the show will be discounted $2. Balcony seating is $8, seating under the balcony in the auditorium are $10, seating from the front row in the auditorium back to the balcony façade are $12, and box seats are $20.
