The Commonwealth of Virginia’s official Opry, The
Virginia Opry, will produce “White Christmas with Bill
Pinkney’s Original Drifters.”
Bill Pinkney was inducted as a member of the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and Bill Pinkney’s Original
Drifters first performed in The Historic Masonic Theatre
for Appalfolks of America Association in the mid-1990s
after Appalfolks received The Historic Masonic Theatre
(named the Historic Stonewall Theatre at the time) as a
charitable donation on Dec. 20, 1991.
In February of 2022, Bill Pinkney’s Original Drifters’ band
members and vocalists were inducted into The Virginia
Opry prior to the famous group’s “Be My Valentine
Show.”
The night of the show, Appalfolks announced the return
performance would be on Saturday, December 17, 2022,
to perform its “White Christmas Show at The Virginia
Opry.”

Those who attend the “White Christmas Show” will be
taken on a trip down Memory Lane where they will hear
such classic Drifters’ hits as “Under the Boardwalk,”
“Stand by Me,” “This Magic Moment,” and “On
Broadway.”
Christmas songs will be sung along with the group’s
classic hits such as “There Goes My Baby,” “Dance with
Me,” “Honey Love,” “Up on the Roof,” and “Save the Last
Dance for Me.”
Bill Pinkney was the last surviving member of the Drifters
that skyrocketed to fame in 1953, with Clyde McPhatter,
Gerhart Thrasher, Andrew Thrasher, and Jimmy Oliver
rounding out the group. Bill performed with the group
till 1956, eventually forming Bill Pinkney’s Original
Drifters.
Since Bill passed away on the Fourth of July in Daytona
Beach, Florida in 2007, his extraordinary legacy has
continued to grow via Bill Pinkney’s Original Drifters, the
internationally famous touring band and quartet.
